The Instructor:

I am thrilled to welcome your student into this 2022-23 school year at First Baptist Christian School! This is my first year at FBCS, and I am honored to be a part of a school that pursues both academic excellence and Christ Jesus. I have a BA degree from Louisiana College, now named Louisiana Christian University, in Religious Education as well as a Master of Theological Studies MTS, degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. My desire is to teach a Biblical world view through the subject of English, Literature, and Media. We will be reading, analyzing, annotating, writing, and learning grammar while having a “Great Adventure in Classical Literature” and serving our school through media.

The Course:

The goal of my English class, is to have students gain knowledge, understanding, and the ability to apply Christian values to real life situation by analyzing novels, plays, numerous short stories, and poems. We will be writing essays, timed writes, and shorter responses. I hope to equip students with confidence in their ability to read, understand, and discuss both written and verbal presentations. Students will develop skills needed to conduct research, write, and present formal papers and/or presentations.

There will be homework assignments, including work not finished in class, and upcoming assessments. Most homework assignments can be found on my webpage however, some may be added in class. THE STUDENT IS RESPONSABLE with keeping up with all assignments including assignments during absences. The students must do both, one view the website and two ask me to make sure they get all assignments! Homework and class work must be complete and turned in to me. Homework in this course consists of the following:

Finish writing assignments. Students have plenty of time to work on writing in class, but they may need more time at home to polish their work.

Study for quizzes and tests. This may also involve students using online resources to review for a reading quiz on reading that we completed in class and be ready for pop quizzes.

Complete assigned reading. Assigned reading may be followed by a reading quiz the next day.

SENIORS ONLY: Seniors should be working on senior project all first semester and through February!

Class Website and Headmaster:

The class website will be updated on each Monday of the week with homework  assignments and upcoming assessments unless previously posted. If your student is absent, he or she is expected to check my web page and ask me in order to get his or her homework and missed work. To access the class website, go to view Teacher Updates and Class Updates. Your student’s grades can be accessed through Headmaster.

I am happy to meet with you and / or your student with any concerns or questions after school and by appointment. If you would like to meet with me, please contact me to set up an appointment by emailing [email protected] Students can informally come and receive assistance on assignments without  an appointment any day after school if I am available. I’m almost always in my room until 4 PM.

Additional Materials:

Students in my courses are required to have a three-ring binder (one inch or bigger) as a writing portfolio, composition book for journal, and a dictionary. Returning students may already have their writing portfolio in that case bring the one you have.

Grading Scale: A=100-93; B=92-85; C=84-75; D=74-67; F=66-0  Possible bonus points may be given at teacher discretion.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any comments or concerns—I am here for our FBCS families!
