Announcements

There will be no school Monday, September 7, 2020 because of Labor Day.

September 9, 2020 will be Patriot Day. Students are allowed to wear a red, white, or blue shirt with jeans and their school shoes.

 

Tests

Tuesday: Writing test 3.

Wednesday: Math test 2. Students will need to be able to write sums based on the addition flashcards shown to them. Count pennies and determine the amount of cents. Write the next number by counting by ones. Do basic addition problems. Mark the number that is greater. Write out an addition problem based on the dominos given. Mark the number that is less.

Thursday: Math speed drill test 2 (Basic addition problems). Social Studies vocabulary test

Friday: Science test 1 (mammals, living, and non-living things)

 

Classwork

Monday:

No school (Labor Day)

 

Tuesday:

Math: Workbook pages 39-40. Go over worksheet with the class. Play around the world and allow the students to race to see who can write the answer to the addition problem on the board first.

Social Studies: Workbook pages 8-9. Discuss community workers and how they help us. Allow students to name some community workers. Complete community worker matching activity on workbook page 8.

Science: Workbook pages 37-38. Read aloud Genesis 1:7-8a and Genesis 1:20. Watch video about birds. Read definition of a bird (lays eggs, has feathers, and has wings).  Turn to pages 35-36 in student workbook – discuss places where birds are found.  “God planned to feed birds through nature.  Just as He provides for His birds, He also cares for His children.”

Writing: Complete worksheets in writing. Review formation of letters and sentences

 

Wednesday:

Social Studies: Workbook pages 10-11. Go over the terms “rules” and “policies” with the students. Allow the students to give an example of a rule or policy and state why we should follow them. Also discuss what would happen if we did not have any rules or policies.

Science: Workbook pages 39-40. Students will feel feathers in 2 paper bags (one is a flight feather, and one is a down feather) and describe. Discuss kinds of feathers and purposes; discuss bird skeleton (what does it help the bird do?)  Display 2 straws:  one filled with sugar and one empty.  Ask a volunteer to hold up both straws and describe the difference.  Explain:  birds’ hollow bones help them to be light enough to fly.

Thursday:

Math: Workbook pages 41-42. Go over worksheet with the class. Speed drill test

Social Studies: Workbook pages 12-13. Review for the social studies test.

Science: Review for test on mammals, living, and non-living things

Writing: Complete worksheets in Writing: review formation of letters and sentences

 

Friday:

Math: Workbook pages 43-44. Go over worksheet with the class. Play around the world and allow the students to race to see who can write the answer to the subtraction problem on the board first.
