Parent Letter
Hello,
My name is Alyson Batten and I will be your child’s math and/or bible teacher this year. I am looking forward to meeting each of your children and can’t wait to see what God has in store for us this year.
Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have a B.A degree in Mathematics from George Mason University. I am married (we just celebrated our 36th anniversary) and have 4 children: David (33), Brittany (32), Stephanie(27) and Julie (25). I home schooled all of my children from age 5 and am very proud to say my son David has a Masters in Accounting from Tulane University, my daughter Brittany has a BA in Business and Entrepreneurship from Louisiana Tech University, Stephanie has a BS in Mathematics from Mississippi State, and Julie has a BA in Media Production from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters in Communications.
Mathematics is my passion and I can’t wait to introduce your children to the fun and exciting concepts of linear equations, slopes, and unknown variables. The weekly assignments can be found on google calendar and I update your student’s grades weekly on Headmaster.
My basic philosophy is that math is best done EVERY day so your student will have assignments DAILY. We will practice math in class together daily and most nights they will also have independent work they need to complete at home.
Below is the quarterly 1000 point grading scale. Your child will need the following for this course: pencils and a binder and/or notebook. Your child will need their own calculator. I suggest the following : TI-30XS. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
1000 Point Grading Scale
Type of Assignment | Point Value of Assignment | Number of Times the Assignment is Given | Total Points for the Quarter |

Classwork | 20 points per week | 8 | 160 total points |
Tests | 100 points | 3 | 300 total points |

My email address is [email protected]. Contact me any time. I check email daily. Also, when school begins, I will be available for extra help after school until 3:50pm Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
