By February 2, 2020July 28th, 2022VPA Junior High

Classes begin 2nd Semester 2023

I am so excited about this new school year!  I will be teaching your 7th or 8th grader in Visual & Performing Arts survey class.  This class will meet one nine weeks for the year.

My name is Linda Vicknair.  I am married to Floyd and  I have five children.  My two oldest daughters are married.  I have four granddaughters, Lilli, Maggie, Chloe and Margot and two grandsons, Anderson and Theo. My four youngest children are all graduates of FBCS.

I have been a member of FBC, Slidell for over 40 years.  I sing in the church choir and play handbells. I earned a BS in Psychology from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2005.  I have a Master’s degree in Human Resources Education/Workforce Development from LSU.  I am certified in Business Education/Career Development, Art and Family & Consumer Sciences.  This is my 18th year teaching at First Baptist Christian School.

The Arts are an integral part of your child’s education.  The arts not only are important in learning and creative thinking, but they also help a student to learn better in other subject areas. The arts not only teach creativity, but encourage students to think creatively, experiment, innovate, and to seek new ways to solve a problem.  Our God is THE CREATOR.  That alone, should tell us that creativity is important.  Learning a specific skill set doesn’t have the value in today’s world that it once did. Learning how to be more creative (and thus adaptable) is what prepares our students for life beyond the classroom.

New this year:

7th & 8th grade electives will be in sessions.  They won’t come to me until the 2nd semester.  Topics for our sessions are:

  • Drawing Techniques – face proportion, linear perspective
  • Music & the Movies
  • Musicals

Student artwork will be displayed at our annual FBCS Night at the Arts in May.  Please plan to come!

FBCS participates in the ACSI Art Festival that is held in April, Student artwork is chosen to represent our school.  It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate creativity. I will be looking for excellent work to represent our school!

ART CLUB, 7th – 12th grade, will meet on the 4th Wednesday (or close to that) each month, 3:15 – 4:00. All students are welcome!

Donations for art or music are always appreciated.  If you have an instrument that you no longer need and would be willing to donate, that would be amazing!  I really want the students to have hands-on experience with various musical instruments.  Art is a subject of consumption.  Everything is used and needs to be continually replaced.  If you would be willing to donate towards supplies, it would be greatly appreciated!

I am expecting a fantastic year with your student, and you!

Linda Vicknair
